| It's like man, that’s why the industry is so fucked up because everybody be forgetting what they job is. Everybody is trying to tell everybody what to do. You got DJ's around here acting like they rich, they like making music. You got program directors trying to put groups together. Its like everybody is forgetting what the fuck they do! Nobody is really concerned with the music no more. So when somebody comes and says "I don’t wanna rap like 50 Cent, I don’t wanna be killing no folks. I wanna continue to do what the Goodie Mob always do and trying to say something", nobody be feeling that. In this world right now, ain't one album you can go to the store and say "man, somebody is really saying something", besides Kanye West. And Kanye West is from Chicago. Another oppressed Hip Hop state that has always been trying to get accreditation in New York! Kanye West and Twista have finally done it for Chicago, as far as getting accreditation in New York.
MVRemix: And they had to go to Roc-A-Fella to get it done.
Gipp: That’s what Hip Hop is right now, it’s a bunch of hypocritical, wanna be artists. There are too many fans as artists in the industry right now. You cant really go into the industry and make different music cause they will be like, "that’s not what everybody else is doing". I can't play that in my club because you not doing Joey Crack, your not doing the "Lean Back". "Niggas don’t dance no more all they do is lean back!" Oooh wee, it’s a trip how they use so much of that Goodie Mob slang! And we can't get the credit for it, but everybody else can.
Khujo: Everybody waited 10 years and then came and bit a niggas shit. That’s the wrong way to show respect.
MVRemix: Now you guys are saying how New York is out manufacturing sounds, but a lot of people feel the same thing is happening in places like St. Louis. I mean you got Nelly, then Chingy and Jaekwon. It's all the same thing, so how do you feel about that?
Khujo: Well, I mean, that is eventually going to fizzle out to something new. But once they hear that, that gives them the perception that , "ok this is what whole world accepts, so let me go ahead on and not go against the grain and just go with the grain". Its just gonna take somebody out there in that region to come out with some brand new music and a whole different way of bringing it to you.
MVRemix: Ok, switching gears a little bit. Most fans believe that your first two albums are classics (Soul Food & Still Standing) but which one do you think is better?
Khujo: Hmmm, I can say I like "Still Standing" better. Only because when we started doing "Soul Food" we went in blind and not knowing what to expect. We was just in there giving our all. And even though it’s the first album and I love it to death, "Soul Food" really gave us room to allow us to come out with "Still Standing". And "Still Standing" was like a rebel with a cause album. We were no longer innocent and we knew what was going on with the business and the world. "World Party" to me, that album got us global recognition. Because we was the first southern hip hop rap group to tour Japan. We didn’t go to Japan off of the "Soul Food" album or the "Still Standing" album. We went to Japan off of this "World Party" album! And they named us the first hip hop rap group to tour Japan. I don’t think people gave that album a chance, because all you see now is people doing club songs, all day. I think "World Party" influenced all this club shit going on. You can't get folk out the club now.
MVRemix: When that album dropped a lot of people were disappointed with it, so you think people slept on it and really didn’t understand it?
Khujo: Yeah, I think they slept on it and didn’t give it a chance. Because that album was also socially conscious, dirty south to the core and it had some club beats. Cause our first album didn’t have any songs you could play in the club. Not one song! "Cell Therapy", you couldn’t play that in the club. If you was a real DJ you could have mixed that with Too Shorts "Freaky Tales". But that’s the problem with DJ's now, they ain't DJ's no more, they trying to do a whole other job. We had flame and heat on that "World Party" album. "All A's" produced by David Sheets, "Cutty Buddy", "World Party", which was inspired by a Lionel Richie song. People just listened to what other folks said, "don’t get that record man". But here it is today, its platinum now. So all of them albums were stepping stones in the career of the Goodie. Whether people want to accept it or give it a chance or not, its still on the books and in the records, and you can still get something out of those albums.
MVRemix: So Khujo, how have you been since the tragic car accident? How have you been holding up?
Khujo: Aw shit man, it ain't been easy, but I been holding up. Cause the most high preserved me to jump out here on this "One Monkey" album and to relay. Just like we did from "Soul Food" on up to now, just to relay some type of message out here. Cause that’s what the hip hop culture is all about. Its about having fun, but its about finding some understand nigga while you having fun! In the midst of clubbing or in the midst of the streets you got to have some type of understanding. Not just learning how to roll a blunt up or how to throw you some spinners on some rims, or how to bounce like this. There is another side to that. You got an acid and a base chart. If you got too much on the acid side you gonna burn folks mouth up. Too far on the base and you ain't gonna give 'em enough. But if you right there in the middle, neutral, you got room to move left and right.
Gipp: We gotta still balance, because if we don’t balance and put knowledge up in the music and put reality music out then they gonna start saying, "Ok, the A town cant rap no more. All they do is get down, all they do is act like clowns". So we gotta let them know, no, we just don’t jump up and down, that’s just part of a culture. We got plenty of sense. We talk slow, but listen fast!
MVRemix: Khujo, after the accident happened did people act differently around you?
Khujo: No, it was really just seeing a lot of love out there that we really didn’t see the last few years. So once the accident happened a lot of people from Europe was concerned, and that really surprised me. The good thing is people had sympathy and felt for me. So it let me know that everybody out there ain't bad, there are still some good people in the world. It was just a lot of love, all around.
When I get out the first thing people may look at is my leg. They might have heard I was dead, or both of my legs were gone, but people were just happy to see us out as a group and as a family again. And when they see us they know what it is. They know our discography, then know our history, they know what the G Mob is about. It just makes me feel good to be out amongst the living, still to be able to participate in interviews or shows. It just makes me appreciate everything a little bit more than I did.
MVRemix: So would you say you are more motivated and inspired to do music now?
Khujo: I'm more inspired to do music, but I'm also more inspired to really further our careers. Whether that be signing groups, promoting shows or getting restaurants out here in Georgia with the Goodie Mob name behind it. Its about advancing and uplifting. That’s what I'm really about now, cause jumping around and all that stuff is really for the kids. But when it comes down to it, we got that grown man stuff over here.
MVRemix: Usually tragic situations like that bring a group together, so how come it didn't happen like that?
Khujo: It did. Cee-Lo came down to the hospital to see me, but like I said one monkey don’t stop no show. You can't keep coming down there to see me, you gotta get to it. So he got to it, he got his solo thing out. We ain't fought, we ain't having shoot outs or nothing like that. It kind of did bring the family together, just for a certain period of time.
MVRemix: So overall, what do you want to accomplish with the new album?
Khujo: The main thing is one monkey don’t stop no show. To anybody out there that has a goal in life they want to do, there is always going to be some type of monkey that is going to try and stop your show. Whether it be of flesh and blood or material. You just cant let that dictate what tomorrow brings for you. Its about a message basically. And its not only to the people who hear that, but its also for the people who do the music. Cause one monkey don’t stop no show is a double edged sword. Its about looking at adversity in the eye without blinking. Its about when the going gets tough, you get tougher. And its about finding some understanding while you having fun, period. You cant be in the club all day, you cant be in the streets all day. There has to be a balance when you sit down and get some time to yourself and you read and get that spiritual food.
MVRemix: So after the album are we gonna get solo albums from you, Gipp & T-Mo?
Khujo: Yes sir! Gipp finished his solo album already, and I'm working on mine. And T-Mo is most definitely ready.
MVRemix: What about another Dungeon Family album, we gonna get another one of those?
Khujo: There has been talk about it, that’s where everything starts from, some type of dialect. But if we find a home to put the album on we will most definitely put it out.
MVRemix: And is the complete Goodie Mob family ever gonna hook back up again?
Gipp: We not gonna say nothing, we gonna let time tell. Just like we didn’t know that there was gonna be this time of period going on with our career right now. So we cant tell time and say what's gonna happen. So we just gotta do what we doing and continue being the best that we can be. If Cee-Lo comes back that’s cool. If we get to record again that’s cool. That's what we wrote in the book for the album. But as far as this chapter, its not only about us becoming a great group but a great record company where we can help other artists.
MVRemix: Anything going on in the immediate future that you want to let fans know about, such as tours, guest appearances, etc?
Khujo: They can hit us on the website, www.Goodie-mob.net. They can holla at me on the website, www.khujogood.com.
Gipp: We going on tour with Big (Boi), possibly on the R.Kelly tour. We got a house of blues tour coming. We then got a tour with B.G. & Lil Flip coming up.
MVRemix: Any last words?
Khujo: June 29th, "One Monkey Don't Stop No Show". Call the radio station and request the songs, tell them what you want to hear.
Gipp: We got a DVD in there for you. Its going to bring you up to speed with the Goodie from the first album all the way up to now. You can see the whole family, Outkast, Goodie, Backbone, everybody in the Dungeon Family. Be looking out for us to come to your town to do a show.
