Hot Rod (G-Unit): Sunday Night Sound Session

October 2006

MVRemix: Nah, I just think it's funny because Jake's one of our big Seattle dudes and he did "Rock Co. Cane Flow" the De La Soul joint, that's crazy, 50 did a mixtape joint over it later, and it's funny Posdonous in the song was like, "We don't have to say the producer's name all over the track." And I was like, "Aw, that was the one time you should have! That's the homie." So speaking of 50, speaking of Game and speaking of beefs man - do you inherit beefs when you sign to G-Unit or do you feel like "I'm kind of still doing my own thing"?

Hot Rod: Excuse me man, who you said? 50 and who else?

MVRemix: Ah yes, yes, you probably wouldn't even recognize him...

Hot Rod: Nah, for real?

MVRemix: The Game.

Hot Rod: What? As in the industry or what?

MVRemix: I've seen Shaq play this game with Kobe... "Who? Kobe? Never heard of him?"

Hot Rod: There's an artist out named the Game?

MVRemix: What about Diddy then?

Hot Rod: Oh I don't know man, I heard a lot of rumours about the Diddy thing. But it was just somethin' where, you know Diddy... We was tryin' to work with Ma$e. We did a lot of things, a lot of money was spent with Ma$e goin' on tour and everybody was under the impression that Ma$e was free to come get his own deal. Just some things happened man, you know - that's 50 and Diddy and that's they little thing goin' on. I don't know, I'm real interested in it, it's real fun to hear the records and we'll just see what happens.

MVRemix: What's the deal with 50 today in NYC drivin' around his Lamborghini...

Hot Rod: Ah man, I just got off the phone with him comin' up to the station. Man, I was like "What you doin' man? You ain't have no license, no registration... How you gon' be in a $400,000 car with no license and registration?"

MVRemix: ...In Manhattan, switchin' lanes, drivin' crazy. That's another level right there.

Hot Rod: He supposed to be settin' an example for me! I'm a young boy. I was tellin' him, "What you doin' man?" It was real cool, a lot of people came out - I guess the media. It was just a real crazy thing, a lot of people hittin' me up tryin' to find out what was goin' on. But you know, he out, he was doin' his thing, just chillin'. Shouts out to 50 Cent.

MVRemix: I know you guys wrapped up the video for "Be Easy" already, is it available to see anywhere yet? When's the air date?

Hot Rod: We gon' watch it as soon as we get off the air, I'll show you a little somethin' - I got it on a little underground site. But yeah, probably in a couple weeks man, I'ma go on 106th and Park with 50, he gon' take me on there and I'ma introduce the record. It'll be on MTV... TRL, all that good stuff. So when y'all check it out, you'll get the visual of ya boy Hot Rod and I'm sure you'll be impressed.

MVRemix: The other big joint that people may have heard you on was the remix to that L.L. [Cool J] joint, "The Freeze" joint, you've worked on with Lloyd Banks, 50, LL, now you've worked with Mary, you've worked with [Dr.] Dre - all this from someone who just got signed. How crazy is that to be in the game for such a short amount of time and to have already worked with some of the biggest names in Hip Hop?

Hot Rod: Man, it's a dream man. It seems like it was meant to be. I mean 'cause really, I just got signed. It was like March, so what are we in? We're in September right now... I forget the months and the days... To be on these planes... But yeah, it's just been a few months and 50, he enjoyed our chemistry, my presence, my personality - you know I'm a real humble dude. I told him I wanted to come in and really do somethin' special for Hip Hop, I'm tryin' to change the game. Really just come in the game and make a new sound. It's just real cool man, real cool. Bein' able to work with people like Dre, Mary J. Blige and 50 Cent.

MVRemix: That's all you need right there...

Hot Rod: 50 Cent. He signed me, that's off a demo. Last time that happened was off of, who was that? Eminem right.

MVRemix: Yeah, the last demo we head off someone gettin' a demo.

Hot Rod: So I'm the next thing to pretty much pop like that.

MVRemix: Speakin' of Dr. Dre, what's his involvement on the upcoming "Fast Lane" album?

Hot Rod: Man, that's a surprise, I can't be givin' all the surprises away.

MVRemix: That's what these interviews are all about man.

Hot Rod: That's what they all about, but I'm tryin' to sell records.

MVRemix: But he will be working on there...

Hot Rod: Yeah, we got him on there man. Of course. I was livin' with 50 for a couple months and he has every single beat in the master computer, so I'd be up all night man goin' through the beats and see somethin', and of course I'ma go to the Dre folder. It was a real good look man, I mean really 'cause I need to get him on a project.

MVRemix: When's the album gonna be done?

Hot Rod: We got it. The album's already finished.

MVRemix: It's wrapped up.

Hot Rod: Yeah, it's wrapped up. We still recordin', just incase I can come up with an "In Da Club" or somethin' and knock somethin' off. But yeah, it's finished man. We actually did it in like a month, we finished it in like a month. When I was livin' at the mansion we would wake up and just go straight to the studio. It was real fast, it was real good chemistry that we had.
