Lyrics Born Interview

2004

MVRemix: Keyboards vs. Samplers: what is your stand and why?

Lyrics Born: I think you should use it all. I personally use both and the reason being - why limit yourself? I'm not one of those Lyrics Bornhardliners. Your either or, black and white kind of guy. I think all these things were invented and these are all great inventions we should embrace. You should do whatever it takes to make a great song or great album, or great piece of music.

MVRemix: How did you begin learning how to produce?

Lyrics Born: I think most rappers have one piece of equipment. And for me, back in the day, that one piece came to two that two came to three... I've always been interested in production and as I listen to more and more music and as I thought about it more and felt it more, hung out with musicians more, gradually I had a sound that developed in my head that I wanted to get out and I realized I wasn't gonna be able to do that unless I did it myself. I've always admired cats like Large Professor, Dr. Dre, Diamond D, Pete Rock - guys that rapped and produce. Lord Finesse... guys like that that can produce and rap. So that was the goal, I wanted to be that kind of artist.

MVRemix: Do you have any non-musical creative aspirations?

Lyrics Born: Yeah, I mean, I've got a lot of things that I'd like to do in my life. I'd like to write; plays or movies. I'd love to act in some capacity. Things like that.

MVRemix: Which movie sums up Lyrics Born thus far?

Lyrics Born: I'm about half way through "Rocky." Not at the end of it, but half way through.

MVRemix: Predict your next year.

Lyrics Born: That's hard. I can't. I'm just trying to stay in the moment. I'm hoping, god willing, that everything I've set out to do I'll achieve.

MVRemix: Do you have any last words for your fans or potential fans that are going to be reading this?

Lyrics Born: Enjoy music. Enjoy life. Don't be judgmental. Just enjoy music and life.
