Young Gunz: Appreciating Tough Love

March 2005

Philadelphia's Young Gunz composed of Young Chris and Neef have been heralded as Roc-A-Fella's future. Jay-Z has personally chosen Memphis Bleek and the duo to be the first releases he puts out after his Def Jam take-over.

After huge success with their debut "Tough Luv," on May 17th the duo will release "Brothers From Another," their sophomore record

MVRemix: Any opinions on the supposed fight between him and T.I. the other day? (continued)

Neef: We just in Atlanta with T.I. too. He just came out to one of the shows we did out there. He was talkin' 'bout it or whatever. It was new to us when we got out there. We get the wire later over here, so... I don't know man. It's just wrestling. WWF! No guns go off.

MVRemix: A lot of people have heralded you as the future with the Roc, how does that make you feel?

Neef: We ain't gonna worry about that mentality, we just gonna keep doin' what we doin'. If that's what the people think, that's what the people think. We ain't gonna go off that mentality 'cause we know who the greatest is, you know what I'm sayin'? We just gon' keep it movin'.

MVRemix: Aside from yourselves and Beanie, which other artists are you proud of being from Philadelphia?

Neef: Jilly! Jill Scott.

Young Chris: Musiq!

Neef: All of 'em.

Young Chris: Will Smith - he did his thing. Roots! The Roots for definite. Schooly D! Schooly D from Neef's block. Schooly D from 52nd and Parkside.

Neef: Shout outs to Cool C and Steady B.

Young Chris: Really everybody man.

Neef: There's so many. You've gotta give everybody props.

MVRemix: Do you have any favourite artists that aren't in the mainstream? Artists who need to be put on.

[pondering]

Young Chris: Tryin' to think - maybe somebody on the road or...

Neef: I think this girl - I think her name's Cherry, Miss Cherry? From Atlanta. I seen her joints. Miss Cherry from Atlanta, she crazy with it. She hot out there too.

Young Chris: UK, there was dude in the club overseas.

[agreeing/discussing artists above one another amongst themselves]

Neef: Yeah, he's nice. Yeah, yeah, remember in St. Thomas? Remember in the projects out in St. Thomas?

Young Chris: Yeah, from Mac back in the jump.

Neef: Yeah, some weird places man.

Young Chris: Yeah... that's talent.

MVRemix: Are you a big fan of movies?

Neef: Yeah, we watch a lot of movies.

MVRemix: Which movies have impacted you the most? Which are your favourites?

Young Chris: I like true stories. I like it to be real, that way I can get really into it. Sit there and really watch it, 'cause, you know what I mean? I don't like all that too many graphics and swords and shit like that. Too much goin' on. I like ol' school movies from back in the day, but I'm talkin' 'bout right now.

MVRemix: Have fun with this one - a la "Fight Club," "If you could fight any celebrity, who would you fight?"

Young Chris: I would fight Mike Tyson.

MVRemix: You reckon you'd win?

Young Chris: [calmly] Yeah. I seen that video today - Will Smith "I Think I Can Beat Mike Tyson." [chuckles]

MVRemix: Any opinions on what happened to Lil' Kim? And also your opinions on Lil' Cease and Capone taking the stand against her?

Young Chris: That's crazy, yo! I don't know, they got twenty deep there. That ain't cool, that ain't a good look. Ain't too many stories though. We ain't gon' take the stand. We ain't never gonna approach the bench.

MVRemix: Aside from the album, what else do you have in the works? Guest appearances and such...

Young Chris: The movie ("State Property 2"). I think they comin' out with a DVD to the "Fade To Black" movie. We just shot a couple of photo shoots for S. Dot, for Jay's shit. We just did some shit for Christina Milian.

Neef: You know... Memph Bleek album and Beans' album.

MVRemix: Do you have any last words to your fans or potential fans that are gonna be reading this?

Neef: "Brothers From Another Mother"

Young Chris: Thanks for the love and support man. We gon' keep hittin' y'all.

Neef: Be lookin' forward for G.I.F.I. - Get In Where You Fit In and Roc-A-Fella Records. We gets busy!
