Bring on the funk! Hailing from Kansas City, Missouri, Approach is one funky individual. Combining 70' soul with raw boom bap Hip Hop, Approach's debut album "Ultra Proteus" is one of the more unique albums of the year.

While lyrically Approach may not be the most gifted emcee, he certainly knows how to make good songs. Combine this with some amazing production and you have one rock solid album. "Ultra Proteus'" best efforts come from Approach's best work behind the boards. "Various Blends" features a heart pounding bassline that will certainly rattle your speakers. "Slide Back" is a pure funk experience, as the song will take you into another world with its vibrant horns and infectious melody. However, Approach is able to produce a variety of sounds on the album as well. A perfect example of this is "Al Japro", which is a silky smooth effort that stands out due to some magnificent horns.

With "Ultra Proteus", you can expect great production and solid song making. However, if you are looking for over the top concepts and spectacular lyricism, then the album may disappoint you. While Approach is a solid emcee, he rarely leaves you wanting to come back for more. Nevertheless, "Ultra Proteus" is a good album to put in if you are in a relaxing mood and want to hear some great beats.
