Just in time for Thanksgiving comes a hip-hop DVD and mix CD combination destined to leave everyone feeling fuller than a plate covered with turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, and biscuits. And with Peanut Butter Wolf feeling generous during the holiday season, this dinner plate comes equipped with all the trimmings.

The Stones Throw label, delivering consistent underground albums featuring the likes of Madlib, MF Doom, Oh No, Lootpack, and Dudley Perkins for quite some time now, continues in the vein of their “come correct” style with “Stone Throw 101,” a DVD, mix CD package that outlandishly gives away quality hip-hop music that few other labels would be willing to part with.

The first Stones Throw 101 disc (DVD) launches videos for the likes of Madvillain (“Rhinestone Cowboy” and “All Caps”), Wildchild (“Wonder Years”), and Rasco and Planet Asia (“Take It Back Home”), putting faces to the emcees that have filled Stones Throw releases.

But the fun does not stop beyond the 15 music videos, as the “Extra Credit” portion of the disc boasts a Peanut Butter Wolf interview and several other exclusive Stones Throw TV performances that were only available to overseas crowds and several regions of the United States previous to the 101 teachings from Stones Throw.

Peanut Butter Wolf returns on disc 2 of the Stones Throw 101 series to present a mix CD of several released tracks (most notably Madvillain’s “Accordion”) with the craziness of Dooley O’s “Headbanger’s Ball,” Rasco’s “Unassisted,” and even a brief appearance from Talib Kweli paired with Jaylib on “Raw Sh-t.” Add several strong attempts from Oh No, Madlib (and his many aliases), and Peanut Butter Wolf himself, and 42 tracks later, new listeners to Stones Throw will know what has built this underground empire - while those familiar with the label will have their Stones Throw thirst quenched by the plethora of efforts from the label mates.

Call it an early Christmas present for underground hip-hop fans, or just in time to fill up the minds to match the bellies at Thanksgiving, but either way, Stones Throw 101 is a lesson in how hip-hop music should be made and translated to disc. Don’t be afraid to learn the lesson, or else get caught out in the cold this holiday season.
