It’s funny how things work out. Before the world found out that Rhymefest helped pen Kanye West's "Jesus Walks" he was just another emcee trying to prove his worth. Now, he is that "next guy" emerging from the underground. Nevertheless, Rhymefest has always been a talented lyricist with the ability to make good songs. This holds true on his latest mixtape, A Star Is Born Vol. 1.

While the album lacks original beats, he produces memorable efforts over T.I.'s "Bring "Em Out" with "Forty-Two Bars Of Fury" and "Chi-Town" over Ja Rule's "New York." Fest also follows Black Thought by doing his best emcee impressions by humorously concocting battles between 50 Cent & Ghostface, and Nelly & Krs-One. While only a mixtape, A Star Is Born Vol. 1 is a nice introduction for those who have slept on Rhymefest so far.
