This EP I'm reviewing isn't exactly the latest thing to drop, but our LP's & EP's part of the reviews section doesn't always contain the newest material, just reviews of material we've managed to get our hands on, we give you a few cuts, some words and a rating, so here goes....
McEnroe are from Winnepeg, so, the odds are you haven't heard of him before. Basically it's a rapper and a DJ and in short, they're pretty fucking dope. This 7 track EP (also it has 2 interludes) has some of the dopest lyrics I've heard recently, but, they do lack in one aspect. The main emcee hasn't got the best voice, however, the beats fit the music really, really well and the lyrics (as I already said) make up for the voice.
The tracks are all pretty similar in the sense that McEnroe talks about him being 'real' and a lot of others being 'fake.' He has an education and rhymes for enjoyment, he rhymes for the love of the culture and not for the dough and so on....He sums that up best in 'Fishing For Ideas.' 'Ahm The Original' has McEnroe comparing himself to fake rappers, giving himself a lot of praise and coming up with some pretty good metaphors in the process.
Summing up each and every track on the EP would be pointless, but, I strongly suggest you peep the clips to hear what McEnroe is like, the EP is lyrically amazing, production is pretty good and although I dislike his flow, the material is worth spinning. The odds are you won't be able to (outside of Canada - where I am) get your hands on this, specialty vinyl stores may stock it, but, if you do get a chance to purchase this EP then do so because McEnroe deserve some props for delivering a lyrically excellent EP.
