Mr. Cheeks, best known for his work as a member of Lost Boyz and his one hit ''Lights, Camera, Action" manages to sustain fans desires with his sophomore solo album; "Back Again." There are some solid tracks that are more so reminiscent of the older LB stuff than on "John P. Kelly" his last album.
Standout tracks include "Reminisce 03" featuring Pete Rock, Journalist, CL Smooth "the Hustle" featuring M.O.P. and "Pimpalicious" produced by P. Diddy. The production by Mr. Sexx fits perfectly with a reminiscing feel and the guest rappers flow exceptionally. On "The Hustle" Mr. Cheeks drops some of 'Back Again's best rhymes.
His first single off the album; "Crush On You," featuring Mario Winans, is a nice relaxing track. The slower somewhat R&B inspired tracks work suprisingly well for Mr. Cheeks, with Glenn Lewis and Floetry making appearances. For the most part, Mr. Cheeks rhymes consistently with his older material.
The album is very well produced with Bink! and Mr. Sexx providing variation with some dope beats. The strong production makes this album worth listening to. Both ''John P. Kelly" and "Back Again" are somewhat underrated in my eyes.
Mr. Cheeks should have waited longer to develop a more well rounded album though. Within the short time since his last album dropped, it seems this album was rushed and could have been better if more time was taken. With that said, it's also refreshing to hear an album that keeps you replaying it voluntarily.
