Clinton Sparks grabbed me when I heard him speaking on his first official release stating that he wouldn't be satisfied until people would be playing a video game of his while listening to a CD of his, drinking a drink of his etc. I can't recall exactly what it is, but his aspirations were pretty overwhelming and entertaining. It seems though, that that piece of audio wasn't far from the truth, as the Boston DJ/producer has what seems like an exclusive mixtape out every other week.
"Touch The Sky" is a collaborative effort between him and Kanye West, the compilation is worth the money.
Including exclusives from D-Block, Mike Jones & Slim Thug, Ludacris, N.O.R.E., Busta Rhymes, Freeway and many more, all produced by Sparks himself, the mixtape doesn't fall short of pace or quality. Mike Jones & Slim Thug's "H-Town" features one of the only Mike Jones performances in which I haven't wanted him slain, Slim Thug's hook and the befitting beat excuse him. "Take Everything" features Clinton Sparks manipulating the "Cheers" TV show theme for a beat. The D-Block track works excellently as Sheek, Styles P and Jae Hood utitlize what they were given.
Disappointingly, Kanye's exclusives are limited. There are a few Kanye interludes, a freestyle and a re-hashed vocal track over a new Clinton Sparks beat, but by and large, Kanye is a brief background host.
The "Touch The Sky" mixtape, although only loosely connected to G.O.O.D. music, is still a great compilation. If only more DJ's/producers took the time to compose a bootleg worth listening to.
