The fools gold tour was pretty radical, all things considered. All things being: I am not 19 years of age and was not high as a kite, the place was full of scenester royals, and the boy I have a major crush on, was there with his girlfriend. Slightly distracted by my own lack of hipster cool and the, ahem…boy, I still had a wicked awesome time.
The Show fulfilled my desire to dance, dance, dance! Dance my little aching heart away...sigh. Seriously though, living in Vancouver, finding bumpin’ dance parties is a challenge, with the majority of clubs playing host to chachi chachsters and miniskirt morons, more interested in... Well I don’t know what they’re interested in, shitty boring top 40 musick for starters, but I digress, this is not a club rant, this is a review.
Fools gold was super fun! A-track is for real. What I like best, he mixes all genres without getting too electro. Keeps it crunky with old school and new school hip-hop, funk, dancehall etc. If you don’t know him, where the H-E-Double hockey stick, have you been? Not only does he wave the Maple Leaf, he was the youngest DJ crowned (they don’t actually have a crown) World Champion, and the first DJ to ever win all three titles DMC, ITF and Vestax. On top of all that, he’s been Kanye’s (yes Kanye West’s…or as my friends and I call him, Kanye Christ’s) official DJ since ’04 and toured extensively all over the world sharing stages with a slew of notables.
As I was saying, A-track is Fo’ Real Yo’! So much so, that Fools Gold is not just the tour, but also a label. A-Trak and Nick Catchdubs founded Fool’s Gold earlier this year, bringing together the hip-hop and electronic music they play in their sets. ”This DJ scene that we’re a part of in North America has influenced music scenes across the world, but ironically there aren’t enough labels that represent it,” says A-Trak. “That’s where Fool’s Gold comes in.” The label will use their tour momentum to launch a number of releases, including new singles from Cool Kids, Kid Sister (who rocked the house by the way), Kavinsky, an EP of ’90s dance re-edits by Sammy Bananas called High Top Fades, and more.
If you missed this tour, too bad for you - Fool! But fear not, you can still buy his music and DVD at www.djatrak.com Here you will also find his Diary, it’s muchos entertaining, dude not only has a way with the turntable but also with the word. Word. But keep up with the Salbourg DJs; they are bringing Van City to Life! To Life! Lahaim! http://www.salbourg.com/blog/ Hip Hop Hurray!
